My name is A.J. (a.k.a. The Rogue Writer), and I am extremely passionate about the world of content creation and online marketing.
Starting my journey nearly 30 years ago—when dinosaurs roamed the earth long before the invention of the internet—I began my career as a direct mail copywriter, writing sales copy for both traditional and nonprofit organizations.
A Little Story About My Writing Life
I have been writing almost as long as I could speak. As a child, I would tell all kinds of stories (although mom would euphemistically call them my “fibs”). I would tell tall tales to anyone who would listen. As I learned to put pencil to paper, my stories became the beginnings of an everlasting love of the written word.
Throughout my school years, writing was one of the few classes I actually enjoyed. In college, I pursued degrees in cultural anthropology—because I was fascinated by people—and creative writing.
While attending graduate school, I worked as a freelance copywriter, creating ads, sales letters, and commercial scripts for various small businesses and non-profits.
As computers became more powerful and the internet grew, I worked for several years writing online sales content. I have also published works both as a ghostwriter and under various pseudonyms.
I eventually decided to merge my two biggest passions, entrepreneurship and writing, into a company I could be proud of and, thus, Writerion was born.
How You Can Become a Good Content Writer
Writerion is an online agency specializing in teaching content creation and online marketing to aspiring entrepreneurs.
At Writerion you can learn how to become a good content creator yourself.
I truly believe that anyone can write. All it requires is that you sit down and put pen to paper, or in our more modern age, type words into a computer. But to write well requires a few more qualities and skills.
First, you absolutely, positively, must love writing. And not just like it a little. You must LOVE writing. (By the way, any time I use the term “writing”, you can substitute pretty much any form of content creation—blogs, podcasts, videos, ads. eBooks, online courses, etc.—It all requires some form of person-to-person communication.)
I often tell people that I’m a writer because I can’t imagine not writing. I have written for my entire life, often without pay or any other reward other than the act of writing itself. If this, too, is you then read on.
Next, you should have a good grasp of communication. Note that I did not say a firm command on grammar and punctuation; these skills can always be developed or even overcome with the use of a good editor.
Instead, if you can communicate your ideas effectively to others, you can be a writer. Besides, for most things related to copy and content, I recommend writing the way you talk. A good story will overcome a misplaced comma or dangling modifier every time.
Then comes imagination. The ability to think creatively is definitely a key component of being a successful writer, whether you are writing a formal white paper for a Fortune 500 company or the latest novel about a crime-fighting private detective who also happens to be an alien-werewolf hybrid chasing vampire zombies on the weekends.
And finally, and perhaps the most important quality of a good writer, is persistence and good old-fashioned hard work. Self-motivation is required most of the time because, let’s face it, being a writer can be a lonely existence at times and no one will push you harder to succeed than yourself.
Moreover, as a professional writer, you need to see your writing as a business. While it is fun to just let your creativity loose and write haphazardly when Miss Muse pays you a visit, if you intend to make a living as a writer you must follow a proven three-step process: Write, Publish, Repeat.
So, with that said, let me share with you why I created this site for you.
